Together California, co-founded by renowned actor Christian Bale, is a true ‘village’ that will serve as a foster care facility where children will thrive together in a ‘single-family home’, and also be supported through an intentional community of care. The facility will be located in Palmdale, the largest city in the Antelope Valley region. The landscape design takes cues from the Geophysical features of this region which lies in the western tip of the Mojave desert, surrounded by the Tehachapi, Sierra Pelona and San Gabriel Mountains.

As the Architecture takes inspiration from the mountains, the landscape reflects the canyons, ‘bajadas’ (alluvial fans) and the rivers that run above and below ground. The garden along the street will serve as a showcase of the curated desert landscape. An outdoor event space will be the setting for graduation ceremonies and other future celebrations. The residential units will surround a courtyard filled with amenities for various age groups: Play structures and mounds for little kids, a formal grove of shade trees for family gatherings and a flex field. Additionally, groups of vegetable garden plots are proposed to be located around the units and all these amenities are framed in by a bike loop punctuated with outdoor exercise stations.
